September News
Spring has sprung and it’s day one of the promise of the garden and the warm earth and of what’s to come to delight our senses through the next three months. We ventured out to Haydon Hall, home of Jane Sullivan & Peter Carlin, the manicured hedges and geometric shapes down the path led us to the Pages River running freely beyond the garden gate. The day was stunningly warm and we spent the afternoon like lounge lizards in the sun.
We wondered at the pink blossoms around town and the bulbs already blooming in our own yards. Our hellebores are prolific as are the jonquils and daffodils and let’s not forget the irises popping up in some gardens. We are also excited for our peonies that have broken out of the warm earth in numerous gardens. But don’t forget the frosts of October, they can last forever and be bothersome to your early flowers.
Our discussion moved to the devastation on and non- fruiting citrus and weeds as we sipped a cup of tea.
Take the leaves off your sick citrus & check by scraping the trunk for signs of life.’whoflungdung mulch’ around the roots works a treat and we all know what to do with the weeds!!!
The point score was won by Julie Weske with a stunning blossom and equal 2nd was Janene Nolan, Betty Saunders & Jean Doonan.
The raffle was won by Leonie Cantrell.
Our next meeting is on Monday 5th October 2025, at 1.30pm at the home of Dinah & Larry Norton.
The address is 8 Pages River Rd Murrurundi. Park down the other side of the hill near ‘Greenhayes’ and there will be a shuttle up to the Norton’s.
Bring your teacup, a plate of yummies, a trading table offering and a point score flower which this month is ‘any flower’.
Book in 26-27 of September for a number of reasons but mainly for the unveiling of the Murulla Railway accident movie by the Museum with the financial assistance of the Railway Historical Society and directed by Blandford moviemaker, Lesley Wand, husband of renowned artist Hanna Kay and the Pioneer Cottage movie of the Twins, Carmel and Gwen.
The movies will be on at 10:30 and 12:30 both Saturday and Sunday and will be shown in God’s Waiting Room alongside the museum. Saturday & Sunday will be markets on as well. It is also the KOR weekend.
See you all in your gardens,
Mary Benn, Secretary.
