Murrurundi's railway station, opened in 1872 as the Great Northern Railway pushed north.
The Murrurundi Railway Station opened on 4 April 1872, the result of twelve months' work by 412 labourers and 158 horses carving the line north from Scone. Its arrival transformed the town, with the population growing from 400 to over 2000 and a building boom following close behind. By 1888 the line had been extended all the way to the Queensland border. One of 30 stops on the town's Heritage Walk.
