Murrurundi Troop of the 12th Australian Light Horse.
The Murrurundi Troop invites you at attend the commemorative Service to mark the Anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba, Palestine this weekend, Saturday 31 October, 2015 at 11.00am.
This year marks 98 years since the Battle of Beersheba which is perhaps the greatest horse charge in history which took place on 31 October, 1917.
The parade will be led by the Scone RSL Pipes and Drums, followed by the mounted troopers which will be held at Wilson Memorial Oval in Murrurundi. This Service is to honour the heroic efforts of Australian troops and their horses during World War 1.
Taking part in the Service this year will be Major Terry O’Brien and John Hill, as well as school children from Blandford and Murrurundi public schools.
The troop meet and train monthly to achieve the historic tribute you will see on the day and following the mounted troops is the restored Limber and the captured German Field Gun.
The Battle of Beersheba was an extraordinary part of Australian history with strong links to families still living in the Upper Hunter.
